Society for the Performing Arts offers a range of public programs often facilitated by the world-class artists SPA brings to Houston. Adults and children are welcomed to participate in the multitude of offerings we provide throughout the season.
H-E-B Performance Preludes
In addition to presenting performers from around the globe' SPA curates a showcase of exceptional local talent. Performance Preludes afford audience members with pre-performance entertainment such as dance concerts, music recitals, drum circles and movement demonstrations. If you are a member or leader of a performance group in town and would like to learn how to become involved in an upcoming Performance Prelude, please call 713-632-8112 or visit spahouston.org/performance-preludes.
For almost every scheduled performance, SPA plans a pre-performance discussion or post-performance session to provide patrons with context and insight into the art and artistry that graces our stages and fills our halls. Students and teachers are encouraged to join these conversations with professional musicians, dancers, choreographers, directors, tour managers and local experts. Topics of discussion can include the design and rehearsal process, training and preparation for performances, inspirations for the work of art, historical background and relevant current events.
Dance and Music Master Classes
In an effort to advance young and emerging artists, SPA provides access to the global perspectives of choreographers, dancers, musicians and artistic directors from the companies who are invited to perform as part of SPA's 2013-2014 Season. Serving as guest teachers, these artists provide our school and community partners with unparalleled opportunities to advance their artistic skills and augment their knowledge, understanding and appreciation for a variety of art forms and cultures.
SPA in the Community
SPA Steps into the Houston community to offer programming unique to our organization. From interactive drum circles to open rehearsals, Houstonians are invited to experience performing arts in community centers and locations outside of the Theater District.
