June
Christensen was named Executive Director
of Society for the Performing Arts
(SPA) in October 2007.
As a 20-year veteran
of SPA, Christensen has played a role
in taking the organization it from
a small, six-member staff producing
11-15 performances per year, to the
world-class presenting organization
that it is today.
Prior to becoming
Executive Director, Christensen served
as Director of Programming and Operations.
In that capacity, she managed and
directed all aspects of production
and operations for SPA events, as
well as the negotiation of artist
contracts. In addition, she was responsible
for researching and selecting SPA’s
roster of artists.
Christensen is a
member of the Association of Performing
Arts Presenters (APAP), Dance USA,
Southwest Performing Arts Presenters
and The Broadway League. She currently
serves on the Houston Downtown Alliance
Board. Christensen also serves as
co-director of the Theater District
Operations Committee, consults with
architecture firms regarding the ongoing
renovations of Jones Hall, and is
a trustee on the I.A.T.S.E. Local
51 Pension Board.
She began her career
in the arts with Houston Grand Opera
after completing studies in Italian
language at the University of Chieti,
Chieti, Italy.
Since its inception,
SPA has presented more than 800 performances
of the world’s finest music,
dance and theater events and has sought
to provide a variety of learning experiences
for adults and children through master
classes, lectures and special student
performances. The organization also
works to build relationships between
the performing arts and other interests
within the greater Houston area and
throughout the state of Texas.
