Brazil’s Deborah Colker is a force unto herself. Her choreography is amazingly musical, yet sensual, thrilling and cathartic, challenging notions of space and gravity and redefining the rules for what can and can’t be done. Take Mix, for example, with dancers performing on the side of a stage-wide climbing wall. Their danger is theatrical but the audience’s rush is palpable. This work earned Ms. Colker, who also created Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo in 2009, the distinction of being the first Brazilian to receive London's prestigious Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance.
