SamulNori, a company of artists dedicated to showcasing traditional Korean arts, music and dance, was founded by Kim Duk-soo, the group’s leader and master of the Changgo (hourglass shaped drum). SamulNori has become the leading traditional Korean performance group, and soon they’ll be entertaining audiences in Houston! The origins of their music can be traced to what is referred to as farmers’ band music (Nongak) and ceremonial music, with influences of folk and religious music (Binari). SamulNori has collaborated with highly acclaimed musicians from around the world and their various styles of music, ranging from jazz to pop, and have also performed with orchestras in concertos written exclusively for them.
